What are the signs of a blown head gasket?
White exhaust smoke with a sweet smell, coolant that disappears with no visible leak, milky oil, bubbles in the coolant reservoir and repeated overheating can all point to a head gasket. A cooling system pressure test and a combustion leak test confirm it.
Should I fix an oil leak?
Yes. Small leaks get bigger, oil dripping on hot exhaust parts is a fire risk, and leaking oil breaks down rubber hoses and engine mounts. Common sources are valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and the front and rear main seals.
